Advocacy service

The Aged-care Rights Service Inc (TARS) is a community legal centre that provides non-legal advocacy for the residents of Commonwealth funded hostels and nursing homes and recipients of in-home aged care in NSW, and legal advice and advocacy for residents of self-care retirement villages. All calls to TARS are confidential.

Legal Service

The Aged-care Rights Service also runs a legal service specifically for older people.

TARS Educators are available to provide education sessions to seniors groups, staff and residents of aged care homes and retirement villages and also professional groups such as Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs). Complete and send our Education Request Form for an educator to contact your organisation to arrange an education session.

The Aged-care Rights Service Inc is registered as an association under the Associations Incorporation ACT 1984 (NSW). Under its rules and objects, TARS' affairs are controlled and managed by a community based management committee. TARS is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, Department of Services, Technology and Administration/Fair Trading NSW, Legal Aid NSW to run the Older Persons' Legal Service (OPLS), Human Services/Ageing Disability and Home Care (NSW), Commonwealth Attorney General's Department.
