Respite care
PDF Print E-mail

Residential respite is provided in hostels and nursing homes for people who need extra support for short periods of time.

Respite care is often used when a carer needs a break, or needs time to recover from an operation or illness. People who usually live alone can also use residential respite care if they need extra support for a while. A total of 63 days or respite care may be taken in each financial year. An ACAT assessment is required so that the level of care can be determined; an ACAT approval for residential respite care lasts 12 months, unless stated otherwise.

Respite residents will be charged a basic daily care fee, which is 84% of the aged pension. Respite must be booked ahead.
