Retirement Village Law Update

As you all may aware by now, in December 2008, The Retirement Villages Amendment Act 2008 was passed by NSW State Parliament.

The Amendment Act introduces a package of reforms to the Retirement Villages Act 1999. The new act has not yet been proclaimed and will not be until the Regulations are formulated. We understand that this process is nearing completion and will soon be forwarded to the parliament for drafting.

It is anticipated that the reforms will come into effect in mid 2009.

TARS will continue to work with residents groups, government and the community to provide assistance and feedback as an advocacy service for retirement villages residents.

If you wish to view the outline of the reforms please go into the following Office of Fair Trading link:

Further progress of the reforms will be posted as it comes to us.
